In 2 Different Directions

This week I've been split in two.

Frederick Library

Library Pattern

library piecing section

It is taking forever. This piece that is about 10" x 5" took about 3 hours!

I started working on a quilt with my friend Julia. I asked her what's her favorite building in Frederick and she say she loves the library. So we started working on a quilt about the Frederick library. She just started quilting recently but it has become an obsession and she churns out quilts in a month that would have taken years for a seasoned quilter to make. She will make about 8 blocks in what takes me to make two. Here is part of the pattern made for the foundation paper piecing. I've been making my buildings more abstractly without foundation paper piecing but since this has to fit with Julia's blocks, I will stick to a more realistic, precise tone.

Maybe I'm loosing interest in the building quilts because I'm getting pulled in all different directions instead of working on what I should be working on. Maybe is getting back in the groove after a long trip. Maybe I just need a break and then I'll feel better about it. Enter a new idea...

Body Nostalgia

There is a local art gallery that has a call for work with the theme Nostalgia. Last year I made a little quilt Awakening June that everyone loves and it just got accepted into a national exhibit. I've been wanting to keep experimenting in that direction. The Nostalgia exhibit made me think about it more deeply. What can I make in the body series that would fit that theme? I thought about when we see photos of ourselves when we are younger and we always think how skinny or pretty or young we used to look. So I'm going in that direction. I have a vision in my head of what I want to do. We'll see if I can make it work. 🤞

drawing nudes

I'm starting by drawing from photos in the internet.

I keep chuckling at the boobies on my cutting table.

This is only half of my vision. Now comes the hard part. Stay tuned...
