Quilting Frederick at The Delaplaine Arts Center

I am very excited that my series Quilting Frederick is at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick, MD for the month of January and February. The Delaplaine is one of the most important art centers in the area and my quilts look wonderful there. It is the first time I have a solo show in an art gallery. I have had solo shows in businesses and have exhibited in galleries as part of a group show but this is the real thing! Look at my name on big letters on the wall!

There is a Meet the Artist Reception on February 3th from 3-5 PM. I plan to be there and I hope to see you there also. That day there are a lot of activities going on in Downtown Frederick so it is a great time to visit.

It is also significant because I remember coming to the Delaplaine when I first came to visit Frederick and thinking to myself how wonderful it would be to have my art on these walls. Only big professional Artists with a capital A can get there. Well, here I am. I also remember maybe 16 or 17 years ago, my mom gave me one of the Delaplaine mugs that say Artist at Work. Suffering from a big case of imposter syndrome, I thought it was cute but almost felt like it didn’t belong on my table. Well, here I am.

You never know where life is going to take you. There have been a lot of things that have happened in my life where I remember having thought “Oh I wish I could do… / be … / go to …” and eventually it happened. So from now on I’m letting myself dream big. All those thoughts of “I wish I could…” I am going to think are possible. My resolution for this year is that when someone asks me what do I do, instead of telling them what my 9-5 job is, I’m going to say “I’m an artist”. That will get me talking about my art and who knows what opportunities come from that.

I am an artist.
