I’m working on a quilt for a friend. We are actually trading. She is piecing a bed quilt for me and I’m making a quilt of her house. They call it BlueBerry. The house is a lovely deep blue color and it it the cutest house on the block.

My goal is to get it done at the end of the month. It is possible. Here are some process shots.

On Teaching

Speaking of process, I have been asked by many quilters to teach them my process to design patterns from buildings that I use to create my quilts. I don’t want to spend a lot of my time on the teaching side that could be spent creating art. Nonetheless, I have been thinking about it and have been doing some planning. I went to a workshop with Lyric Montgomery Kinard on virtual teaching (which was wonderful by the way and gave me great ideas) and here’s what I’m planning for next month:

  • I’m going to make some simple house quilts and document my process.

  • My process involves expensive computer programs that not everyone has so I have to find cheaper alternatives that anyone can access.

  • I have a group of friends scheduled to do a trial run at the end of March. That will give me a deadline to get things done. This was a tip from Lyric which I think is great.

If you want to get something done, impose a deadline involving other people and that will force you to do it.

So lets see if this is the start of a new teaching career…
